Göreme
The fairyi chimneys of Göreme situated between Ürgüp and Nevşehir were formed by the wind carving the turf and stone.
The region become on of the most important religious centers in teh 7 th century, with the Christian emigration. The people, trying to escape persecution found sanctuary in the underground caves and river beds. Wonderful frescoes, very well preserved can be seen in these caves. All the underground towns cannot be visited at the moment. The dark church wit all its walls decorated with frescoes is a very important ancient monument. Göreme is mostly like an open air museum.
