Cave Inns-Cappadocia

Cave Inns
The fantastic landscape ofCappadocia is shaped out of volcanic ash, which was eroded over the ages into strange formations known as “fairy chimneys”, then dug by human hand into cave homes, cellars, monks’cells, entire villages, several hundred gnome-sized churches and more than 20 underground towns. The carving still goes on: some of the most outstanding small hotels featured in this section are actually caves cut into Cappadocia’s volcanic rock.
The hub of the region is a is km by 15 km triangle defined by the towns of Nevsehir, Avanos and Urgiip. Urgiip is the obvious base for most visitors -it is compact, visually striking and well provided with tourist amenities. Goreme is younger and cheaper, Avanos is renowned for its handicrafts, while fantastically shaped Ugbisar offers a quieter atmosphere.
Farther from the centre lie some less known and much less frequented gems -Mustafapasa/Sinassos with its fascinating old Greek architecture, Ayvah/Aravan with its unspoiled village charm, and Giizelyurt/Gelveri with its imposing former theological school.
