Palmetto Hotel
Selimiye is a lazy waterfront village. Nothing happens most of the time: the cicadas sing, a fisherman may occasionally rev the boat, or the old folks sitting at the cafe may shift a chair. In spring, the orange blossoms smell overwhelmingly. The gulf is nearly landlocked, enclosed by mighty mountains, and has an islet in its middle with a ruined fortress on it
The town was practically inaccessible by car until 15 years ago. Now there are a few restaurants catering to the occasional visiting yacht, and a few decent accommodations, of which Palmetto is easily the most comfortable. The host here is a charming medical professor with a career in the US. The staff go out of their way to please; there is a spotless pool and the sea is right there across the street. So, never mind the architecture: “Bosver”- never mind- as a boat in the harbour proclaims, is the motto here.
