Selcuk

This town is one of the most important centres of in the history of Asia Minor and still displays traces of all the past civilisations. After the Goths plundered Ephesus in A.D. 263 it first fell to the Byzantines, later to the Selcuks. The magnificent aqueduct goes through the town and is still standg.

Selcuk fell to the Carians and latter to the Legler and finally the Ionians adopted their “Great Mother” the goddess of fertility and named her Artemis. The ruins of the temple built in her honour can be seen in the town.
