The ancient name is Seleukeia, and since its fountation it has been a constant settlement area; not many ancient monuments here come down to our day.

The region became known to the western world due to the fact that the Emperor Friedrich I was drowned trying to cross the Saleph (Göksü) stream during the crusades. Ancient ruins can be seen in Dioksaiseria (Uzuncaburç) and Olba (Ura)
